WAMP Server is a program that allows to mount a local web server (in the home PC) on Windows with Apache, using PHP as a programming language and MySQL as database manager. This software package is ideal for programmers and web developers who want to test your PHP pages before publishing them on a remote server.
WAMP also includes the latest versions of Apache, PHP and MySQL versions of the same, so if you want to test a particular development environment. It also includes a web application called PHPmyadmin for creating and managing MySQL databases, and another application called SQLiteManager that serves the same purpose as above.
WampServer is responsible for the installation of all components without the user having to configure almost anything.
Application can be run from an icon in the taskbar, and you can start or stop each of the services at any time from the same interface, for example, restart Apache.
WAMP Server 2.1a is the latest version (updated in December 2010) of this software to set up a web server that can be downloaded for free.
This version is updated to Apache 2.2.17, PHP 5.3.3, Mysql 01/05/1953 (64-bit version), MySQL 5.5.8 (32-bit version), 3.2.0.1 and SQLBuddy PhpMyadmin 1.3.2.
